Maintaining your glass staircase

June 2, 2014

There are many benefits to owning a staircase from The Stair Glass Company. They look great, their modern design will stand the test of time and they are built to a very high standard so they will not degrade easily. Another benefit is that our glass balustrades are extremely easy to maintain and will not require frequent maintenance over the years. They are resistant to scratching and breaking to give you extra peace of mind, especially if you live in a house with children. All that is required in an occasional clean to keep them looking as good as new.

Whether you want glass in brackets or glass built into the rail of the staircase, keeping them clean and looking great is easy. First of all, wipe away any dirt or grease with a damp sponge. Make sure the sponge is not too wet as water might dribble into the wood and cause it to gradually rot over time. Next, use a reputable brand of window cleaner and simply spray and wipe. For best results, use a lint free cloth, but kitchen roll often works just as well, especially when using the “wipe on, wipe off” method with two different pieces. If there are any particularly stubborn pieces of dirt that wont come off with the window cleaner, you can use a single edged blade or a razor to remove it. Just be very careful not to scratch the glass.

And that's it! Simple as that. Just be careful not to wear a diamond ring or any other glass jewellery as this may cause scratches.

What to do in the event of a breakage

Staircases made by The Stair Glass company are made using toughened glass in the balustrades. These are resistant to scratching and breakages and will last a long time. In the unlikely event that there is a breakage, the glass will shatter into small pieces and will not form dangerous glass shards. If this happens, call The Stair Glass Company and we can replace the glass for you like for like with our bespoke service.
